The palm branch is a symbol of victory, triumph, peace, and eternal life originating in the ancient Near East and Mediterranean world.
It was awarded to victorious athletes in ancient Greece, and a palm frond or the tree itself is one of the most common attributes of
Victory personified in ancient Rome. The branches laid out on the ground before Jesus as He rode into Jerusalem represented goodness and
victory. It was symbolic of the final victory Jesus would have over death.
“O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” 1 Cor. 15:55
